Robert Archer Lynn, who previously worked on low-budget indie thrillers like Adrenaline and Dead Box, penned the script and the film is currently shooting in Mexico City. In addition to Mescudi and Kinnaman, the cast includes Harold Torres and Academy Award nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno.

Silent Night follows a man simply known as Godlock, played by Kinnaman, who seeks to avenge his young son after he gets trapped in the crossfire of gang violence on Christmas Eve and tragically killed as a result. While pursuing the murderers, Godlock is shot and left for dead. The man then swears to avenge his son, no matter how many lives he must destroy on the way. Mescudi will take on the role of Detective Dennis Vassel, but further details regarding his character remain unclear.
Although most people know Mescudi as a rapper, he appeared in numerous films and TV shows throughout the years. The musician made his acting debut in 2010 when he guest-starred on an episode of One Tree Hill. Since then, Mescudi has starred in multiple projects, including the film adaptation of Need for Speed, HBO’s We Are Who We Are, and Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, the latter of which received four Academy Award nominations.
Most recently, Mescudi appeared in the A24 horror movie X alongside Mia Goth, Brittany Snow, and Jenna Ortega. The film, directed by Ti West, is set in the late 1970s and follows a cast and crew who gather on an elderly couple’s ranch in Texas to make an adult film but find themselves threatened by an unknown killer. An homage to classic slashers like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Friday the 13th franchise, X received positive reviews and currently has a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mescudi will also make his directorial debut next year with Teddy, which he also wrote. There’s very little information about the project, but Mescudi explained earlier this year that the film will be in part autobiographical. “I added a lot of my own personal struggles and experiences in it, so this film is very close to my heart,” he wrote on Twitter about Teddy, which has been in development since 2013.
Silent Night is currently filming in Mexico.
